Privacy at a glance#
This privacy policy covers two things: this website (nearguide.info) and the NearGuide app for iOS and Android.
This website is built to be deliberately data-minimal: it sets no cookies, loads no external resources (no external fonts, no CDNs, no social media widgets, no video embeds) and uses no tracking and no analytics tools. When you open the site, only the technically necessary access data in server log files is processed by the hosting provider (see “Hosting” and “Server log files”).
The NearGuide app collects no data (see “Privacy in the NearGuide app”).
Controller#
The controller responsible for data processing is:
VERSABILit
Peter Schmidt
Buschweg 31
53757 Sankt Augustin
Germany
E-mail: team@nearguide.info
The controller is the natural or legal person who alone or jointly with others determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data.
No cookies, no tracking, no external resources#
This website stores no cookies on your device and reads no information from your device (no device fingerprinting). No analytics or tracking services are used. All fonts, scripts, stylesheets and images are served exclusively from our own domain; third-party content (e.g. font CDNs, video platforms, maps or social media services) is not loaded. A consent banner is therefore not required.
Note: your choice between light and dark appearance is stored solely in your
browser locally (localStorage) and is not transmitted to us.
Privacy in the NearGuide app#
The NearGuide app collects no data. There are no accounts, no cloud sync, no
analytics, no crash or telemetry SDKs and no third-party SDKs. The Android build
holds no INTERNET permission and is technically unable to “phone home”; the
iOS build embeds no networking or diagnostics SDK.
Everything stays local on your device: your library content, a locally
generated device identifier, and the app settings. Data leaves the device only
when you actively export a .lnai file via the system share sheet — the app
never initiates a transfer on its own.
Accordingly, the store declarations read: in the Apple App Store “App Privacy” = Data Not Collected, and on Google Play “Data safety” = No data collected and no data shared.
Permissions and their purpose#
| Permission | Purpose | Data collected/transmitted? |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Unlocks iBeacon detection in the foreground and background and triggers local notifications. | No — no GPS coordinates are read, stored or transmitted. |
| Bluetooth | Nearby iBeacon scanning (consumer) and setting up your own beacons (curator feature only). | No — no Bluetooth data leaves the device. |
| Notifications | Local notification on beacon proximity; on Android also the foreground-service indicator. | No — local only, never a remote push. |
The location permission is solely the technical gateway to iBeacon detection. It is not used for location tracking; no location is determined or evaluated.
Hosting#
We host the contents of our website with the following provider:
STRATO GmbH
Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7
10249 Berlin
Germany
The personal data arising from the operation of the website (in particular the access data in the server log files, see below) is processed on the host’s servers. The external hosting is carried out in the interest of a secure, fast and efficient provision of our online offering (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). A data processing agreement (DPA) pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR exists with the host.
Server log files#
The hosting provider automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser transmits automatically. These are:
- browser type and browser version
- operating system used
- referrer URL
- host name of the accessing computer
- time of the server request
- IP address
This data is not merged with other data sources. The collection serves the technically error-free provision and the security of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
SSL/TLS encryption#
For security reasons this site uses SSL/TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the browser’s address line switching from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock symbol in the browser bar.
Your rights#
Within the scope of the applicable statutory provisions, you have the right at any time to obtain free information about your stored personal data, its origin and recipients and the purpose of the data processing, and where applicable a right to rectification or deletion of this data. You also have the right to request restriction of processing, to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR) and to request data portability. For this and for further questions on the subject of data protection you can contact the controller named above at any time.
You also have a right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority.
Objection to promotional e-mails#
The use of contact data published within the framework of the imprint obligation to send unsolicited advertising and information materials is hereby objected to. The operators of the pages expressly reserve the right to take legal action in the event of the unsolicited sending of advertising information, for example through spam e-mails.
